Jean François Rey is an independent French optical house founded in 1985 in Besançon, the historic cradle of watchmaking and eyewear. Born into a family of eyewear makers, JF Rey quickly distinguished himself with a resolutely avant-garde approach, blending ultra-thin metal and ingenious acetate to create frames with a sculptural aesthetic.
-
The JF2720 model subtly plays on volumes by combining a round rim (45 mm in diameter) in translucent "mother-of-pearl" acetate inlaid with tortoise patterns, topped with a subtle metal strip connecting the two lenses. The slightly angular angles above the lenses evoke a discreet variation of the "brow-line" without falling into excess. This acetate-metal collage gives an impression of lightness and relief, signature JF Rey.
-
The JF2720 collection was presented to the public in 2018 (spring–summer collection). At the time, this “Adorable” model was perceived as a modern variation of round glasses, reworked in the JF Rey spirit, both in the choice of colors (browns, turquoises and gradients) and in the two-component construction (metal + acetate).
-
Although the brand is French, JF Rey has been collaborating for several decades with high-precision factories in Japan for the cutting of acetate plates and the machining of invisible hinges. This is why the temple finishes are very fine, with no visible rivets. On the JF2720, the transparent edge of the acetate even reveals small glittery inclusions, an almost artisanal detail.
